East Side Hispanic/Latino Ministry

The East Side of St. Paul has for more than a century served as an entry point for immigrants. A leadership team, commissioned at the synod assembly in 2005, will initiate this ministry among the Hispanic/Latino community. The leadership team will recruit, train, and equip indigenous leaders to gather others into house churches for worship, Bible study, and fellowship and to eventually split to form new house churches.

The $250,000 targeted for this initiative will support the leadership team and provide three years of programmatic expenses, after which time the leadership will be transferred to the indigenous leaders so that the house churches become self-sustaining.

Three new congregations in Dakota County

Dakota County has seen explosive growth in population in recent years. Many who have moved into the area do not have a church home, creating an opportunity for our synod to touch and transform their lives with the power of the Holy Spirit. In 2002 four congregations in Dakota County along with the ELCA Division for Outreach and the Saint Paul Area Synod collaborated to launch Community of Hope, Rosemount. Those congregations—along with Community of Hope, the Saint Paul Area Synod, and the Division for Outreach—are now poised to launch three new congregations in the area by providing leadership, in-kind resources, and financial support. Other congregations may also partner in this effort.

The $250,000 targeted for this effort will match funds committed by partner congregations and the churchwide organization.

NEWS:
The Executive Committee of the Synod Council has allocated up to $76,465 to start helping mission congregations now. (October 2007)
